Class Evaluation of our trailer during the editing process
In class, we asked our peers to watch our trailer so far and rate it and tell us their opinion of it so far.
In the level of engagement box, there was a comment that suggested that our trailer so far was too choppy and didn't flow very well and we needed to add in some more transitions. In response to our feedback we decided to add in some more transitions and fades so that our trailer flowed smoothly and continuously and kept the level of engagement as high as possible. For the genre indicators, most people said it was good and then said it seemed to be more psychological/slasher (which is what we aimed to do) but some people said that it seemed fairly sci-fi. The aim wasn't for it to be sci-fi so in response to this, we made sure that the music and actions within the trailer led to more of a psychological, slasher genre rather than sci-fi. But most people did say that we had clear indicators within our trailer so far. In the identifiable/stock characters many of our peers seemed to notice the little girl and the girl at the beginning as the main character, however we did get told that we should make our key character more identifiable, listening to this feedback we wanted to make sure we had a lot of emphasis of our main character throughout the trailer and also that we make the scenes with our main character in very clear due to the editing techniques and sound used, to build suspense. One person said that they can't tell who the villain is straight away, and this is actually what we aimed because the villain in our trailer is supposed to be ambiguous and is supposed to leave the audience wondering (conforming to the patterns of psychological horror, playing with viewers mind). For the narrative thread and the variety of angles and shots, most people said that we had a good variety and that even though the narrative thread doesn't show exactly what is happening straight away, that adds to the tension and suspense built throughout the trailer.
